Since this time the concept of persistent prayer and petition has been seen throughout Church history. The monks of Bangor Abbey prayed continually between 559 AD and 759 AD. In the 18th Century a small community of Moravian Christians lead by Count Zinzindorf, began a prayer meeting which would last for over a hundred years. During these years this small community sent over 3000 missionaries to Europe. These missionaries would reach most of Europe and would later see the conversion of the Wesley brothers who’s own movement would become responsible for a young William Booth. Perpetual prayer is part of our heritage!
During the first year (4 May 2001 until 3 May 2002) of constant, 24-7 prayer in the UK Territory, over 200 Corps and Centres were involved in the 24-7/SA prayer project, from the UK Salvation Army. However it also included Corps in all parts of the world, including Australia, South Africa, Sweden, Russia, USA and Canada. And in Vancouver, Canada young Salvationists have keep the fire of prayer burning -- in The War Room – What started as a one week commitment, has continued on for nearly 3 years . . . and going strong.
